For the third time Congress has failed to come up with the 60 votes needed to fund unemployment benefits for those who have run out. For the third time Congress is politicking with the purse strings of the poor. They have made a big production about the deficit, but the deficit is not why Congress will not fund extended unemployment benefits. The package most Republicans refuse to fund is what they hope will point to a failure in the Obama Administration. "Look Americans are still out of work." It's gamesmanship people, pure and simple. Congress wastes more money you or I could possibly spend.
Congress will give subsidies to goat herders; who raise goats that are not needed, spend $2.6 million; to train Chinese prostitutes not to drink too much and $146 million on federal employees who refuse to fly coach, but Congress will not pass a bill to extend unemployment benefits.
Millions of Americans will file for, but not receive an unemployment benefit check this week, thanks to our backbiting, lying Congress who claims they are concerned about deficit spending. If they were so concerned about spending, maybe they can tell us why they fund and waste money on the following:
The National Institute for Alcohol Abuse spends $2.6 million training Chinese prostitutes to drink more responsible.
The government spends an extra $146 million on federal employees who refuse to fly coach.
The Security and Exchange Commission spent $3.9 million to rearrange their desks and offices.
Last year there were $295 billion in Pentagon cost overruns.
Our government owns more than 50,000 vacant properties and spends millions on upkeep.
The FCC spent $350,000 to sponsor a NASCAR driver – that’s our money!
Congress voted to spend a half million dollars to paint a salmon on one Alaskan Boeing 737.
One hundred million is wasted each year on unused flight tickets for federal employees.
Congress has given themselves $90 million to pay for frank postage for their 2010 campaigns.
Congress appropriated $2.4 billion for ten jets the Pentagon insisted they didn’t need.
One hundred million dollars is spent on subsidies to Fortune 500 companies each year.
Two million dollars has been allotted for the California Prune Board. Is California constipated?
Our government wasted $5.5 billion last year sending out checks improperly; how do you do that?
IBM received $111 million for research projects, General Motors got $82 million, General Electric received $75 million, Ford Motor Company pulled in more than $70 million, and this list goes on and on.
We have spent $730 billion on the Iraq War and $278 billion in Afghanistan.
My personal favorite is millions of dollars in subsidies each year that go to people who raise angora goats. This give-away originated decades ago when the military used mohair in their uniforms.
It isn’t difficult to “Google” and find government waste, and what you find depends upon how you ask the question, but there is no doubt our Congress is willing to waste money on pet projects and look the other way while money pours out of the treasury. Congress is not concerned about the deficit; they are only concerned about making the other guy look bad for political gain. Meanwhile, taxpayers who are funding the government must beg for a little cash they are fully entitled to.
Oh, did I fail to mention Congress spends hundreds of thousands of our tax dollars each year for things like popcorn machines, plasma televisions and ionic air fresheners for their offices?
Who paid for your Television?
