According to Michelle Bachmann Americans are victims who are about to become enslaved by the Federal Government, and like slaves who become worthless, those who are of little use will be done away with. She referred to health care reform as a Kevorkian-like exercise, and insists that, for our own good, we must keep people like her in power.
Speaking to about 600 faithful followers, Rep. Bachmann of Minnesota told the gathering gloom seekers that electing "constitutional conservatives" was the only way to escape "tyranny." To prove her point she went on the quote CS Lewis: "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under a robber baron than under omnipotent moral busybodies..."
It seems odd she would use this particular quote after making the comments she made about being enslaved by the government. It sounds like she is the one trying to “sincerely exercise” he own brand of tyranny “for the good of” the victims – her own followers. She apparently did not draw the parallel in what she was saying with the CS Lewis quote.
Health care reform, Bachmann said, is nothing more than “rationing of medical care to only those who were useful to the federal treasury.” Then she goes on to concoct a conspiracy theory that places health care reform and the treasury in cahoots with one another to either take our money, or your lives.
"It is about being useful not to you, not to others, but to the United States Treasury. How useful are you to the United States Treasury? These people are serious. It makes [Jack] Kevorkian look like Mary Poppins,” she was quoted as saying by the Huffington Post.
The good people of Minnesota seem to love to stir the pot because they elect strange bedfellows who share various conspiracy theories about our government. Compare Michelle Bachmann with former governor and professional wrestler Jesse Ventura. Ventura hosts a television show called, “Conspiracy Theory” on TruTV. One of the theories Ventura lays out is that global warming is a ruse to start a “one-world government” that will control our lives.
Bachmann’s theory about health care reform and President Obama would be hilarious, if she was not serious and if so many people did not believe her. Like Ventura, Bachmann spins the facts. Both conspiracy theorists weave a parallel web; big government’s aim is to take from us, lie to us and kill us off when we become useless.
I am critical of government, and undoubtedly, we have, and have had, people in our government who are this sinister, but to believe a majority in our elected officials is out to get us is tittering on the edge of crazed paranoia.
